Section 8 housing is rental housing where a portion of the rent is paid by a government entity. The entity may be a city, or a county. Each government entity has their own criteria for determining how much of the rent is covered for the tenant.
There are several factors which go into this:
- The income of the person(s) renting the home / apartment.
- The normal market rent for the housing
- Whether utilities are included
- Is the owner approved to provide Section 8 housing
- Is the housing up to code
